Klepý - wooden lookout tower

Zobrazit detailThe peak of Klepy lies in the southwest projection of the Králicky Sněžník mountain range and it creates the border between the Czech Republic and Poland. A 25 m tall wooden observatory stands on the very peak. Ascending to its peak provides visitors a unique view towards the west of the Klad basin framed by the Orlicky and Bystrice Mountains. To the south and east you can see the entire crest of the Králicky Sněžník, and even all the way to Jesenik provided the visibility is good.

Králický Sněžník - mountain range, national nature reservation, peak

Zobrazit detailKrálický Sněžník is the highest peak (1,424 m) of the mountain range with the same name, which is also the third highest in the Czech Republic. The area was declared a national nature preserve in 1990. The name of the mountain is taken from the long winter period – the snow cover on the peak lasts up to 8 months of the year. From 1899 to 1973 a stone observation tower stood on the Polish side of the peak. Located here is a stone marking the meeting point of the Czech kingdom, the Moravian margraviate, and the Kladno earldom; by the foundation of the demolished lodge is a statue of a baby elephant. An interesting fact is that the sources of three rivers that flow to three different seas are located on Králický Sněžník. Lipkovský Brook to the North Sea, the Morava River originating on the south slope to the Black Sea, and the Kladská Nisa River to the Baltic Sea.

Land gate - Nature reservation

Zobrazit detailA protected nature preserve with rich flora, a favourite destination, and a romantic valley – Zemská brána is all of these, and is also the place where the Divoká Orlice River enters Bohemia. The narrow boulder riverbed is lined with striking gneiss cliffs in a segment that is several hundred metres long. The impression of a gate is also magnified by a recently reconstructed single-arched stone bridge built by Czech and Italian stone masons in 1901-1903.

Letohrad - chateau

Zobrazit detailOn the site of today’s east chateau wing the owner of the domain, Zdeněk Žampach of Potštein, built a simple wooden fortress in 1554; in 1681 this was rebuilt by a subsequent owner into an Early Baroque chateau. The fortress was razed and only the stone wall foundations and cellars remained, upon which a two-storied chateau with tower were then built. In the 1990’s extensive reconstruction was undertaken. In addition to permanent exhibits there is also a hotel, private high school, the town library, and an elementary art school.
